Club docks consist of the five docks on the West shore as you enter the Harbour.  A limited number of guest moorings are located throughout the harbour.

Once you have passed “Chimney Point” entering Picton Harbour and have the Club in sight to your starboard, please contact the Club on Channel 68 to request a dock. Please state your vessel name, type of vessel (sail or power), beam and overall length. You will be given directions to the correct dock. On arrival, please proceed to the Clubhouse to register.

If there is no response to your call, please dock on the North side of the third dock from the North (C Dock) if there is space, and proceed to the Club for further instructions. If there isn’t space, please use the loading dock on shore between the 4th and 5th dock (E Dock) as a temporary spot while you arrange for a visitors dock.

The Clubhouse has shower and washroom facilities available at all times. There is a lounge and licensed bar open daily during the summer season. Please check the posted hours of operation for seasonal changes.

Power and water are located at the seawall end of each dock. Please do not disconnect any power lines or connect to private power receptacles placed by members at their vessels without their specific agreement. Many vessels have onboard power consumption and interruption could cause damage to their batteries. The water is potable; however, the Club pays for water use and restricts visitor’s water use to filling water tanks. Visitors may not use the water for boat washing.

The former Municipal operated Fuel and Pump-out facilities on the Southeast shore of the Harbour is under new management. The Club does not have such facilities.
There are numerous shops and restaurants and other facilities located close to the Club. A map or directions can be obtained in the Clubhouse.

Oak Orchard Yacht Club

Oak Orchard Yacht Club

Oak Orchard Yacht Club reciprocal policy

July 272018

The Oak Orchard Yacht Club was founded in 1938 and began operation at the present site of the public boat launch on the east side of Oak Orchard Creek, near the harbor mouth. The club activities centered on cruising, both sail and power, and an active one design racing program. A few of our current members were active at that time and have some “salty” tales to tell.

In the early seventies, New York State cast a covetous eye on the old site and provided the push to our present location on the west side, about a mile upstream. During this time the members of that era faced the herculean task of arranging funding, permits and the construction of the current facilities. It was then that the tradition of being a “working” club was really cemented. Capital was secured not only by mortgage but, also by members contracting for their docks for ten years in the future. With funds in hand, the memberships spent the winter of 1972 on the ice constructing the docks. The clubhouse was also built entirely by volunteer labor, only the main structural parts were contracted out. Many thanks are given to those that worked so hard to get us off the ground.

The period since has been one of gradual improvement to the facilities and expansion of services to the members. In the early eighties, additional land was purchased on the west side of the road to provide a buffer between the club and the increasing residential surroundings.

We are now in the fortunate position of enjoying a debt free facility in a beautiful location. Our vision of the future is to continue to maintain and improve on the physical structure and to stay true to the yachting traditions of all who gave so much personal effort to create what we enjoy today.

Kingston Yacht Club

Your cottage in the city!

April 132016

As an early Kingston newspaper noted, the City is situated on “a magnificent sheet of water, not second to any in America for yachting purposes”. It is no wonder, then, that yachting and boating in their various forms, have been part of harbour scene for some two hundred years.

Kingston Yacht Club, as we know it now, coalesced out of mid – 1800s informal regatta associations and failed earlier attempts to form a club during that period. Kingston’s sailors did not let the absence of a club prevent them from winning prizes at events around Lake Ontario under the ad-hoc organizations of the day. Today KYC continues to have a very active Club racing program (Tuesday and Thursday evenings and most weekends), as well as vibrant Cruising, Women in Wind, Radio Controlled Boats and Adult Learn to Sail programs. The Able Sail program is also facilitated by the use of our property and resources. During the winter, KYC has enjoyed a resurgence in ice-boating, with some 15 iceboats at latest count. The Club will be again hosting a variety of regattas this summer as well – in large measure thanks to its many motivated volunteers. Come check us out!

Notes:

  1. While harbour expansion is underway with the recent installation of attenuator please be aware that space remains quite limited at KYC. Some moorings remain Mediterranean type until harbour renovation is completed. Please call ahead to confirm availability and to request assistance if you are not familiar with docking at a med mooring. Shore power is limited to 15 Amp service, while the centre dock has 30 amp service as part of the harbour expansion completed in 2018.
  2. The use of the out-port facility named Jemmett’s Landing near Breaky’s Bay on the north shore of Wolfe Island is not included in KYC’s offering of reciprocal privileges.

Oakville Club

True Reciprocal

November 302015

Just over a century ago, our historic Oakville Club building was one of five bustling granaries lining the banks of the Sixteen Mile Creek. The Oakville Club building has a colourful history. Built in 1854 by a group of “barn farmers” from the United States, the original granary was owned by Oakville merchant, Obadiah Marlat. Although historical accounts differ, it is possible that the building stands of the foundation of a warehouse constructed in 1928 by Oakville’s founder William Chisholm. The warehouse changed hands for the last time in 1907 when it became home to the newly formed Oakville Club. Members immediately began renovating the old granary to accommodate their interest. Canoeing regattas, Tennis tournaments and Saturday night dances became regular events and made the Club a very popular meeting place. In the early years, two short length bowling alleys were installed on the ground floor in what is affectionately know as Peacock Alley. The bowling alleys were removed in 1927 to allow access to the new Badminton courts which was originally a surplus World War 1 airplane hanger used for agricultural displays at the old Oakville Fair Grounds at Rebecca and Kerr.

The easterly portion of the clubhouse was altered in 1948 to improve kitchen, office and bar facilities. Recent years have witnessed the addition of the swimming pool and deck area. The decade of the Nineties opened yet another chapter of growth and changes the Club, as the latest renovation plans got underway. To keep with the trends of health and fitness in the 90’s, we opened our Fitness Centre in October 1998. This rounded out our Club’s facilities. On April 3rd 2004, the River Bar & Restaurant opened. This new renovation gives our Members a more efficient service and a wonderful water view making this the prettiest casual dining setting in Oakville. This project included the redesigned, new Main Lounge Deck featuring an all glass railing that presents Members with a feeling of sitting on the top deck of a cruise ship. In 2007 the Club celebrated its 100th anniversary. Members, their friends and family enjoyed special events throughout the year to commemorate this special milestone.

The Oakville Club will offer:

A maximum of 2 visits per month with a maximum of 5 visits in a season with full access to any of our amenities. The 2 visits would include (subject to availability) Outdoor Dockside Dining, Pool and poolside dining, outdoor Tennis and Pickle Ball, Club Kayaks, Paddle board and Canoe rentals, and use of our BBQ. All amenities and activities are to be booked upon your arrival to the Club at the Member Services desk. The Oakville Club is a “True Reciprocal” and will charge the same fees etc. for what your Club offers to our Members.

Macassa Bay Yacht Club
November 302015

Macassa Bay Yacht Club has evolved from a very humble beginning in 1962 with a small, plucky group of boaters with great vision, to the vital, vibrant and exciting place that it is today.

The very beginning was around 1962, when seven fellows got together. The feeling was there were a lot of boaters are out there and that a club should be started. An association was formed and they met at a work shop of the B&M Marina. The meetings were held at one of the boat sheds until the water got so high they had to get out of there. At the time, there was no official name for the club, but they were often referred to as the Bitchers and Moaners (from B&M)!

The original clubhouse building was dragged across the ice from Ship Street near the present location of the Harbor Police headquarters and placed at the bottom of Picton Street where it stands to this day. The owners at the time claimed squatter’s rights. Later the original seven members bought the building. There were a few problems working out the purchase of a squatter’s cabin with no deeds, but they hired a good lawyer, who sorted things out. A “key club” was set up and new members were charged five dollars for a key.

The next building expansion was in late 1978. The city by-laws would not allow expansion of the original clubhouse, so with help from a Wintario grant, two portable buildings were grafted and mounted on pontoons. This floating clubhouse was placed on the ice and kept right in front of where the present clubhouse is now. The Commodore at the time said in a Hamilton Spectator article “We will never give up the old clubhouse, it’s like an anchor for the future and we’ll always maintain it”. The old clubhouse could only accommodate 29 of the 77 members. This arrangement lasted only 3-4 months, and then the buildings were lifted onto a pad. Later in 1981, a centre section was added.

The original plans for the new clubhouse were the result of a project with Mohawk College architectural students. They made up 7 or 8 models and plans, but could not come in under budget. Bill Mitchell went to the final marks defense and all the proposals were well over budget. A local architect had a reputation for staying within budget, so he was contacted. There was some dissent about the building of the new clubhouse. A special full member’s meeting was ultimately called to settle the issue. 113 members were present and there was a unanimous vote to go ahead with the project.

In the fall of ’97 the construction of the new clubhouse was started with the removal of the portable buildings, which were taken away by a barge. The “floating” cement pad and soil was tested OK and increased in size to suit the footprint of the new building. The new clubhouse was completed under budget and opened in April of 1998. A little later on, the south meeting Room was built. In 2003, the elevator was installed to make all areas of the club fully accessible to everyone.

MBYC is the envy of the yachting community with its new clubhouse, outstanding facilities, reasonable rates, beautiful location and balanced books. The view of the west end of the bay from the verandah is second to none. We are privileged. The original members had the vision and energy to make this so. This has always been a “Working Man’s club”, with the members doing much of the work that was needed to be done. Quite simply, this is why the club is in such an enviable position. For the long-term survival of the club, it is incumbent upon every member to become actively involved in doing whatever they can to help with the operations of the club.

Our club is host to many people in the community for many uses besides boating. Take the average Sunday and there are usually several wicked games of Euchre in progress. We have an annual Golf Tournament, which raises funds for McMaster Children’s Hospital. The club’s free will offering at the Annual Christmas Open House usually raises around $1500, which is given to local charities such as The Christmas Tree of Hope, McMaster Children’s Hospital, Operation Child Find, and The Good Shepherd. During the winter months, there are Dart games and tournaments going several nights a week. There is the annual Children’s Christmas Party. The “Annual Run for the Cure” happens each fall and our team of runners regularly raise over $2000, going towards the cure for breast cancer. MBYC supports Aquafest and The Parade of Lights. MBYC provides the Knot Abreast Dragon Boat Team, with meeting space and boating facilities. MBYC provides funds to” Keep Hamilton Blooming”, for the beautiful gardens at the entrance to Bayfront park. MBYC gives meeting space to The Hamilton Power and Sail Squadron, a volunteer organization dedicated to teaching safe boating. The club’s own gardens are kept looking lovely by a team of volunteers, which enhances the beauty of the Waterfront Trail. There are countless wedding receptions, showers, wakes, dances, concerts, graduations, meetings, demonstrations and classes going on.

MBYC is a great place to be!
